The Old Guard 2

I am so frustrated with this movie. I was so hyped for this, and it let me down. The first one was my favorite film of that year, and this is all set up, little to no pay off. I like the cast, but outside of Charlize Theron, they feel like background actors. I feel like this film wasted Uma Thurman's time. She barely has anything to do in this movie, and I don't think she brought her A game.
The first movie was a fun action movie, with strong female leads, positive queer representation, and cool fight scenes. That basically sets up Netflix's version of the middle age X Men. This should have been a franchise where these cool immortal former soldiers travel the world fight evil with just enough back story and lore sprinkled in here and there. This movie is a whole lot of back story and lore and not enough action.
For a movie that's spends so much time building on top of its original, it forgot what made it work so well the first time. The perfect balance of story and action is thrown out the window for what feels like a speed run of underdeveloped dramatic moments and plot.
I am not happy about this, but my review is a D.
